The Mitten by Jan Brett is one of my all-time favorite children's books. It tells the story of a boy who loses his white mitten in the snow, and then lots of animals come and cozy up in it one at a time (each animal getting bigger each time). The mitten stretches and stretches until finally when the tiny mouse sits on the bear's nose and makes him sneeze, the animals come flying out! This book is very fun to read and the illustrations show what happened on the previous page and what will happen next. This is a great book to work on sequencing, storytelling, and phonological awareness. You could even use a real mitten and put cut-out animals inside while reading the story. Mitten is a funny word after you type it over and over.
